Welcome to Star of the Sea Military Families!
Star of the Sea Catholic School recognizes the unique needs of students from military families. Sharing our home in Virginia Beach with the world’s largest military population, we provide a stable, consistent learning environment for children of service members. Our embracing community helps ease transitions while reinforcing faith in challenging circumstances. Our school has created a multilevel support system that is inclusive of all military families, to include Joint Forces Staff families, and their needs. This multilevel system includes the Purple Star Team, military specific support pages, activities, Purple Stars Club, Hero Wall, and Ambassador Programs.
purple star team
The Purple Star Team is made up of teachers and administrative staff with vast military experience and knowledge of the challenges military families endure. The robust team of five is composed of our principal (Veteran family), three teachers (Veterans), one teacher (Veteran, Active Duty family), and school nurse (Active Duty & Veteran family). Our team engages in professional development opportunities that help to further our efforts of supporting our military families. The team then leads the rest of the school staff in ongoing training to ensure they are better prepared to support their military students.

purple star club
The Purple Stars Club offers military children the opportunity to gather with other military children to pray, play games and share ideas that help ease the challenges and frustration of situations like deployment. Our club also welcomes guest speakers who will provide additional support through special readings, presentations, and coping strategies to meet our star’s unique needs and challenges.
